America’s Got Talent Finale

This talent competition has one of the most eclectic mixtures of oddities I’ve ever seen! There were times when I was dumbfounded at some of the acts that got through to the next level, leaving what I thought were obviously more talented acts behind.

The finale was no exception. My favorites coming into this week were Drew Stevyns, the Texas Tenors, and Recycled Percussion, but certainly I did not expect Kevin Skinner, a former chicken farmer, to steal the crown from Barbara Padilla, who was clearly the best singer of the entire competition. America was feeling extremely sentimental when they let Kevin slip past Barbara and gave him the $1 million dollars. Gotta give it to him, though, he is a humble, nice guy and I’m sure his family and friends in Kentucky are extremely proud and, who am I kidding? Barbara and all the other finalists will do just fine!

Going into this episode we didn’t know who the final two were. We watched Jordan compete with Kevin for the final HOH. It came down to a tie breaker and Jordan was able to pull out the win! I was happy for her, but I had a feeling that she would lose against Kevin in the jury vote because he probably had more people on the jury than Jordan. But then Jordan actually sent Kevin packing and took Natalie to the final two!

What followed were questions asked of the final two by the jurors, and it started to look like there might be a chance of a split jury, meaning that America’s vote MIGHT be the final word. Julie Chen decided to show us America’s vote first, and America voted for Jordan to win. Still it wasn’t definite until the other votes were in.

You could almost hear the collective gasp as we found out, contrary to what most of us must have thought, when Jessie and Lydia BOTH voted for Jordan! But it still wasn’t final yet, and we found out that Russell had voted for Natalie, so it all came down to Jeff, Michelle, and Kevin. The next vote uncovered was Jeff’s and, not surprising at all since he was her BFF and possible future boyfriend, he voted for Jordan. That made it official – Jordan was the winner! It was so exciting because we could NOT believe that Jessie voted for Jordan and not, as we thought, his one-time conspirator, Natalie!

We later found out that Michelle voted for Jordan and Kevin voted for Natalie, making Jordan’s win a 5-2 victory! I would be surprised if Natalie ever talks to Jessie again and I’m thinking that he may have disliked the fact that Natalie road his coattails (to some extent) and, since he was a semi-star from having been on a previous Big Brother season, she acted as if they were a team, while he just wanted to have allies, not close friends. I never cared for Jessie and believe he is too full of himself and doesn’t want to have to share the limelight with anyone.

So, another Big Brother season is now behind us and I tip my hat to Jordan, who I think was the most deserving of those at the end. I wish Jordan and Jeff luck in pursuing their newfound relationship, maybe we’ll hear more of them as we did Rob and Amber from another reality show.

What a great episode! Natalie was about to cry she was so upset about her loss to Jordan in the 2nd of 3 competitions for the next and last HOH of this season! Is it possible that Jordan could beat Kevin in the final next Tuesday? And is there any way she could actually pull a win out of this? I may actually think about getting online to vote for her since America gets to be the 7th juror this year!

Monday, September 14, is the date set for the final 10 contestants to compete for the $1million prize plus a contract as a lead act in Vegas. I have a few favorites, one of whom is the gorgeous Drew Stevyns who sang the dark version of Careless Whisper, the best song ever done by Wham. It took me awhile to register what the song was because it sounded so different from the George Michael version.

This is the first year I’ve given this show a try and I found I enjoyed it quite a lot. If you like American Idol and can open your mind to dancers, acrobats, magicians, stand-up comedians and quite a few variety acts, you might enjoy watching it next season.

Well it’s looking more and more definite that Jordan won’t win this Big Brother! She followed Jeff’s advice to stick with Michelle and now Michelle is gone. Not that Jordan could have done anything to change that but now she’s alone with the evil Natalie and with Kevin, who I hope will take Jordan with him to the final two but probably won’t because Natalie is going to win HoH. Unfortunately Natalie is the last athlete of the bunch and will probably endure the physical challenges more than Jordan or even Kevin can. Still I’ve gotta watch it to find out if Jeff gets America’s Vote to win the $25,000 as favorite player, and maybe he’ll get down on a knee to Jordan at the finale!

So Natalie thought she could carry off the lie about what was in Pandora’s Box? It was a lame lie to begin with since it didn’t make sense to anyone how it would work. But, once she ‘fessed up, Kevin understood that she had given up her right to compete in the POV contest so she could see her boyfriend, leaving Kevin to play alone for the POV which could get him off the block. It’s good he is finally seeing her for what she is! I still wish Jordan could win it all but can’t imagine that she would win either a physical or mental challenge to be the one to choose who goes with her to the final 2.

Despite the fact that Natalie went back to gathering up cash instead of looking for the key to get Kevin’s hand out of Pandora’s box, I don’t believe it will be enough for Kevin to turn his back on her and vote with Michele to get Jordan out of the house and keep Jeff around. And there won’t be enough people in the jury house to give Jordan the win. So the best that can happen for my taste is for Natalie to lose and Jeff to get America’s vote for extra cash after the series has ended.

America’s Got Talent is a new reality show for me. It has about the same
format as American Idol, showing the more amateurish acts first, building
up to the more professional acts as the series progresses. But sometimes
the lesser acts get through just because America can’t always get it right.
This season there is a dog act featuring frisbees that has made it through
to the Semi-finals despite the fact that the dog missed most of the
frisbees the last time they performed! And at least 2 exceptionally good
singers were rebuffed in favor of lesser acts. But, it is still a fun way
to pass the time, especially during the summer when fewer interesting shows
are available. Thank goodness for Netflix to keep us in movies and
television series we are actually interested in!

Do you love Jeff and Jordan like I do? Isn’t it cool that Jeff got HOH this week and put Kevin and Natalie on the block? As long as Natalie doesn’t win I’ll be okay with this year but I sure would like J or J to hold out and win the whole thing!

I read somewhere that the audience for this show has been growing, both on-air and online, so much that CBS will expand the finale to last a full 2 hours! The finale is scheduled for September 15 where the winner will be revealed and the houseguests will then tell-all about their explosive summer for a special season-ending event!

With Carly gone I’m firmly backing David Cook to go all the way, but America doesn’t always get it right!

If you’re as ready for Lauren Holly to leave this show as I am, then you will be glad to know that one of the team will be killed off soon. I’m just worried it’ll be Abby or Ducky, my favorites.

Best of SNL: Alec Baldwin – how bad could it be, it’s all Alec on this one! We’ll get to see how he’s aged over the years, but he still looks great to me.

The Riches finale: this show has started to grow on me, as have most of the hits the FX Network keeps coming up with. With The Shield playing out its’ final season this fall, what could they come up with next?

Women’s Murder Club returns to ABC, but for how long? Three episodes to burn now, but pitted against SVU (with Robin Williams guesting this week) what chance do they have to show they should get picked up?
