Can you really trust a shrink? I’ve been wondering that since Patricia Wettig played one on Alias and used things she heard in sessions for personal gain. So now I wonder if we can trust Madeleine Stowe in Raines because she make him talk about the details of his cases. And how can you trust someone with so much collagen in their lips anyway?

I really like this show and the finale of the first short season is coming up this Friday and it hasn’t yet been renewed. I’m on pins and needles and can’t wait to find out if it gets picked up for another season! Maybe I’ll have to seek out other things with Jeff Goldblum to get my fix.

Jeff Goldblum is really starting to grow on me. His character is a cop who sees people as he thinks they are based on what little he knows about them. That is, dead people. He’s a murder cop and his way to work through the clues to find the truth is to talk to his interpretation of what the dead person was like. Raines says he came to LA because he wanted to be a writer like Raymond Chandler and this show has a noir feel to it, including the mumbling way Jeff plays this guy. Give it a try, it might grow on you too! Raines is on Friday nights.

The SciFi Channel is rerunning the 4-yr series Star Trek-Enterprise and I’m having a wonderful time watching it. They run 4 episodes on Monday nights so it clogs up my DVR and I have to scramble to watch all the episodes as soon as I can, but that way I really become immersed in the series and the characters. I used to get together with a group of scifi geeks (of which I am one) to watch videotapes of Enterprise, Stargate & Stargate-Atlantis. We picked up Enterprise near the middle of the series and watched it through to the end so I’m having a great time watching it from the beginning this time. If you’re a fan of Scott Bakula’s, from Quantum Leap, you might find another reason to try this out. Linda Park, who plays their communications officer, plays a cop on the new series, Raines, that I wrote about previously.

Here are some outtakes from Star Trek – Enterprise:

I wasn’t sure how well I would like this show but I was pleasingly surprised. When I realized that Raines sees dead people but only as a figment of his own imagination I discounted the fun it could be. What did I care what his imagination thought this dead person might have been like? But, as the show went on, his imagination changed and the characters took on new aspects, attitude, clothing, hair, makeup, accents, as Raines learned more about the character and as different things would occur to him as being possible. It was interesting seeing him talk to one victim and see her attitude change back and forth as he bickered with himself over some of her traits. I’m even getting used to Jeff Goldblum’s muttering ways! I had it pegged early on that his ex-partner, with whom he discusses his cases, was also dead, and that he will be a recurring part of the show, whereas the victim’s will come and go with each episode, but only leaving when his imagination decides they are no longer necessary. Try this one out, I think you might get hooked.
