NCAA Football

Gators and Longhorns won by 10-point margins, but USC lost to Washington and ‘Bama won their game, so there’s a little bit of a shake up in the top 5. I can only hope that Kentucky will be an easy win for the Gators next week because Texas takes on UTEP which should be an easy one.

The top 2, Florida and Texas, will undoubtedly keep their places in the ranks since they both rolled over their opponents today, but certainly Texas is happy to see that Sam Bradford went out in the first half and lost to BYU. Sam may be out anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks, so they may soon have no chance to get into the championship game this year. I had my hopes up for a moment watching the Alabama-Va Tech game, but Alabama pulled out a 10 point win and will be one to keep an eye on in the SEC Conference race.

It was fun watching Favre play again, even though he’s now with the Minnesota Vikings. And it’s easier to root for them with Percy Harvin, newly drafted from the Gators, on the team. But I still hoped that the Texans could beat them. Even Jaworski said some really good things about Shaub! And MNF is gonna be much more fun this season with Chucky on the reporting team!

I have been an avid Florida Gator fan for some time now, despite the fact that I live in Austin, Texas, home of the Texas Longhorns. Last year there was some controversy over who should have even been IN the final game, much less who should have won. I’m one of the many fans who realizes that the current system will never be fair until some actual playoff system is set up, but I DO agree with the rule that, if you can’t win your conference championship, you DON’T deserve to be in the NCAA Championship game. That’s not to say that it wouldn’t be great fun to see Florida play Texas! And perhaps this is the year to see that matchup at long last!

Thought I was gone for good, right? No, I’ve been ill and it will be a few months before I’m back 100%, but I’m coming up for air feeling just a tad better today and figured some of you might actually care about the shows that I’m interested in following during August. So, here’s what I’ll be paying most attention to during August. Go Gators and Tampa Bay Bucs, Seattle Seahawks, and here’s to Brett Favre being able to play first string somewhere!

Sundays Without Football

I know it seems odd, no football this Sunday, but just think of it as practice for after the Super Bowl. You can get some projects done around the house or watch the skating championships!

Next week we get the Super Bowl, then the Pro Bowl (if you like that kind of stuff), followed by the combine and the draft – so much to look forward to. And even if you don’t get the NFL Network, at least you can watch NFL Total Access on MYNET on Saturday nights.

If you’re lucky enough to live in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, or Texas, look into the All-American Football League. If you’re a Gator fan, you’ll be excited to see that Chris Leak is the quarterback for Team Florida!

Gator Football – Capital One Bowl

If there’s one bowl game you have to see, it should be the Capital One Bowl, airing on New Year’s Day on ABC at 12 noon CST.

Why?

Because the Florida Gators will be there, of course! Don’t forget they are still the reigning champs of NCAA Football!

And this year, their quarterback Tim Tebow, won the Heismann Trophy! So everybody show your colors and be ready to do the Gator chomp!

Believe it or not the talking heads are still mentioning Tebow as the golden boy for the Heismann Trophy this year and the Gators aren’t even going to make it to the SEC Championship Game this season, much less the National Championship Game! But we should get a decent BCS game and, at least until they come to their senses and set up a playoff system, that means something.

This week we celebrate the return of the Gators to Spurrier – but it’s only because our guys are going to Spurrier’s turf in South Carolina to play the Gamecocks – two teams go in, but only one can win! Will Tebow be able to pull off the victory? Spurrier has never been his coach, so maybe he can ignore the hype and pull it off. Should prove to be a good game at least, and maybe our #15 team can beat Spurrier’s team, even if they are playing at home!

Gator Football

This week at work we were told we could come in costume on Halloween so I donned my Gators t-shirt, my Gator bracelets, my Gator earrings, and wore my Gator baseball cap backwards all day. When asked what I came to work dressed as I told them “I’m a rapid Gator fan, the team’s not doing as well as they should and anything could tick me off and I might attack!”

I still can’t get over the rushing onto the field by the Georgia team after their first touchdown last week. It would have felt so good if only we’d beaten them. I hear Spurrier said he would have sent some third stringers in to start a fight to get them kicked out of the game. I only know that our guys better put it behind them and move on.
