In anticipation of the second season premiere of Joss Whedon’s (of Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Serenity fame) Dollhouse, starring the amazing Eliza Dushku, I just finished watching (thanks to Netflix which I now love) the final two episodes of season one as well as the original unaired pilot, which was parsed throughout the first seasons’ aired eps, AND an additional show, a post-apocalyptic videotaped episode, entitled Epitaph One. The last was created just for DVD and shows a possible future of the Earth due to the impact of the use of Dollhouse technology, which allows a human essence to be downloaded into another body. I’m psyched for the next season and glad Fox is going to let Joss do this one without interference from the network!

I liked that show so much I watched the entire series in reruns when the SciFi Channel ran it in the early 90s. Funny how shoddy some of the scenes were, with microphones hanging from the ceiling and bad dialogue but it was campy fun! I still hope it’ll come back again, whether as a remake or more reruns, and one day I plan to attend their annual convention held in New York, perhaps even before the main star, Jonathan Frid, passes on!

My next foray into the world of vampires was Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, with my favorite being Spike, he of the British accent and peroxide hair. The progression of Buffy’s relationship with him was fun to watch, and that’s where we met Eliza Dushku as the evil slayer (later she was in Tru Calling, another of my favorite shows).

Angel, a spinoff of Buffy starring David Boreanaz (Bones), followed the action of Buffy’s true love in Los Angeles, where he led a team of investigators of the supernatural, including Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker.

My latest vampire drama is Blood Ties, on Lifetime but definitely not your normal woman-in-danger show, which follows private investigator Vicki Nelson as she and her newfound friend, Henry Fitzroy, who happens to be a 450-year-old vampire, help cop Mike Celluci solve supernatural murders and mayhem. The love triangle creates a steamy backdrop to the action of chasing, and sometimes catching, different supernatural beings each week. It’s a fun, guilty pleasure I highly recommend. If you like it enough, you might want to try out the Blood Books novels on which the show is based. Sundays on Lifetime
