Broadway has always been a euphemism for some lesser status of talent for Simon. He seems to equate it to karaoke and amusement park entertainment.
This week was different because the contestants were mentored by none other than Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer behind such great theatrical shows as Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, and the very, very, long-running Cats. While he gave them advice, even Sir Andrew couldn’t force Jason Castro, laidback as he is, to improve his vocal range.
Syesha, Carly, and especially David Cook, came on strong, while the youngster, David Archuleta, as always, sang his heart out. Brooke White stepped it up a little, performing You Must Love Me from Evita, causing at least me to run for youtube to hear Madonna’s version.
Who will get kicked off the show this week is anyone’s guess. Jason seems to be the clear candidate to me, but America has been underestimating Carly a lot lately so I’m prepared for the worst.
