We now have our top 24, and the Irish girl was one of my favorites. Carly Hennessy Smithson has come under fire recently when it was discovered that she had previously signed with MCA and, despite billions of dollars being spent on her career, MCA dropped her due to some of the worst results ever, to the extent that the Wall Street Journal used it as a case study of what is wrong with marketing in the music industry.
Well, it turns out the rules do not say that she should be kicked off the show because, in fact, she has no current contract. Time will tell if she can step up and compete against the other contestants, some of whom have also sung professionally.
