Neela’s cousin, Jaspreet, decides to leave Chicago when she hears her folks are coming that way, and leaves the same message for Archie as for the 19-year-old med student, to the effect that she had a wonderful evening and that they should stop calling her! The two men looked at each other and said, in unison, “You?”
And Abby returned for a brief shift at the ER, waiting for her morning flight to Croatia following her month-long stint at rehab. She was afraid there would be gossip about why she was gone so long. She finally said she had spent the time doing something personal and the staff suspected a pending divorce. At the end of her shift, following a staff meeting, she decided to come clean and told everyone she had been in detox, that she is an alcoholic, now sober, and hopes she hasn’t damaged any relationships irreparably. As everyone was leaving the room, Sam asked if she ever drank while working and Abby gave her this look, as if she were saying “Why would you ask a question like that?” I think it was a good question and Abby better get off her high horse about it. Sam looked really upset as she left the room, perhaps disappointed that an ER icon had fallen off her pedestal. As Abby was leaving to go home, Neela ran out after her and they made up.
Dr. Gates is still seeing the chaplain at the hospital, but it looks like Sam may be unaware of their intimate relationship. Sam invited Gates and Sarah, his daughter, to go out to eat with her and her son, who was coming into town for a visit. I like Sam more than the chaplain, so I hope it’ll work out for Sam and Gates to hook up.
Did you get the idea that Abby and Pratt might someday have a closer relationship? But first, the writers have to figure out how Abby and Luka will break up. And most writers these days have other things on their minds.
