My TV Musings

Three teams remain: Christina & Ronald, TK & Rachel (the Hippies), and Donald & Nick. I’ve been rooting for TK & Rachel but it’s been good to see Christina & Ronald as well as Donald & Nick to bond more closely.

The first task is to fly to Anchorage, Alaska, the final destination city. Once there, find an outdoor adventure store to pick up supplies.

All 3 teams end up on the same flight. They race to the adventure store where they get a clue and a bag of supplies, but Donald & Nick forget to pick up the supplies. They are almost at the next task when they realize they have to go all the way back.

The detour was a choice between filleting fish to find an item inside OR jumping into the water with live crabs to find one with a band around its’ leg. Ronald cut the fish and Christina quickly found the item. TK & Rachel jumped in the water and were getting frustrated especially when the crabs grabbed onto them. Just as Donald & Nick arrived and TK & Rachel were about to switch tasks, TK found the crab they needed.

The next task was to travel to a boat launch, take a quick boat ride to a glacier where both team members have to climb the glacier. The trip to the boat launch and across the water to the glacier was gorgeous with snowcapped mountains in the distance. TK & Rachel’s taxi driver had to call for directions so they got another taxi.

Ronald has a fear of heights but climbed fairly well to the top, Christina took awhile to get over the bottom lip of the glacier but eventually did it with TK & Rachell close on their heels. As TK & Rachel helicoptered after Ronald & Christina, Donald & Nick started their climb.

Next task was a roadblock: items from previous tasks had to be organized in a certain order. All three teams were working simultaneously, it appeared that Rachel remembered quicker what the different items might be, but her first try did not work. Christina was getting frustrated, and Rachel was able to organize the items first.

Next task was to find a statue of Capt. James Cook where they would find their next clue. Ronald & Christina were trying to get their taxi to pass up TK & Rachel but the hippies arrived at the statue first, finding the clue which said to travel by foot to downtown Anchorage to find the salmon hooker. This was a wooden salmon decorated provocatively on top of a mailbox. Christina & Ronald and TK & Rachel were both hurrying to get there but TK & Rachel reached it first. The final task was to taxi to the airport and run to the finish line.

I expected the airport would be a large one and the finish line would be hard to find but it was a small airfield and it was not hard to find the finish line especially since all the other teams were there ready to greet them. The winning team ran to the finish line and we see that it is TK & Rachel! Woo hoo, my favorites! When Christina and Ronald arrived they said they were grateful for the new bond they had found. When Donald & Nick arrived, Phil confirmed that Donald, at 69, was the oldest team member ever on the Amazing Race to finish and the crowd chanted “Grandpa! Grandpa!”.TK & Rachel said they were glad the race didn’t cause them to change who they were and TK said “nice guys CAN finish first!” Congrats to the hippies for winning the million dollars while keeping their relationship intact!
