NFL on National Platform

Yes, everyone can watch what may be an historic game if New England can pull off a 16th win this season against the New York Giants, but at what cost?  Is this a free market issue or one our government really needs to be poking its nose into?  Sure it cost a little for some of us to get off our sofas and go to a sports bar to watch a couple of the games we couldn’t get over the airwaves, but is it really something for which government intervention is actually warranted?  Since when did watching football become one of our basic civil rights?

Now don’t get me wrong, I love football at least as much as your average fan, but I’m tired of hearing citizens moan and groan and run to the government to fix every little problem they have.  Sure the cable companies are complaining about the NFL Network’s insistence on getting paid, but is that right?  I wish they could make a deal so everyone could be happy, but it IS a contractual issue, not one for the government.

So, if the Giants pull it off and stop the Patriots or if New England goes all the way, will you really be happier because you got to see this game over the airwaves in your own home rather than sharing the event with others at the neighborhood pub?
