My TV Musings

The first task was to bag a chicken and carry it with you all the way to the pit stop at the end of the show. You would think it might be hard to bag a chicken but, surprisingly, all the teams did it rather quickly. The blondes even went so far as to name theirs Phil because they thought his hair looks like chicken hair! For awhile I was starting to like the blondes.

The second task was a detour where each team chooses between two tasks and it was mining versus dancing. Most of the teams chose dancing but the judges were looking for some creativity in addition to just learning the dance they were taught and several teams had to take the 10-minute penalty. One of the women actually used to be a dancer and she wasn’t able to get the thumbs up so Azaria and Hendekea, the brother-sister team, were able to pass them up and move into first place!

The Goth dating team danced so well that they not only received high praise from the judges, but they received applause from the onlookers and were able to move up a spot too. On the next task, the goth girl got help with directions from the African children and got very emotional about the people of Africa, saying the experience was “life altering and amazing and heartbreaking”.

Then came the blondes who got a little applause, but that’s when they realized most of the teams were ahead of them and that’s where they made a mistake. The next station was a new twist to the Amazing Race this year called a u-turn where any team can send another team back to the detour to complete the other half. The blondes thought that Jason and Lorena were on their tails so they u-turned them, but it was really TK and Rachel, the hippies, following them. Jason and Lorena (pictured at left) were behind TK and Rachel quite a bit and were already in last place. The blondes quipped that it’s just a game, but after awhile they started feeling bad about it.

Jason and Lorena got lots of applause for their dance but then they found out they had to do the mining too due to the u-turn and, while they took the rest of the tasks in stride, they couldn’t wait to catch up to the blondes to overtake them. Unfortunately they were never able to overcome the setback at the u-turn and they were eliminated at the end.

When Azaria and Hendekea came in 1st place, barely edging out Nate and Jen, Jen bitched that the brother-sister team had come in first place last week and it should have been their turn. What a poor loser, and here they were 2nd to the other teams!
