nathan_fillion.jpgI seem to always be on the fence about this show. I watched the first season religiously because the mystery was so engaging, dropped it for the second and third seasons when it was clear it was following a soapy path, and I’m trying it again this season because Nathan Fillion, of Firefly and Serenity, has joined the cast. At least so far, but until his name is in the regular credits with the others, I’m leery about how regular a role it will be.

Nathan portrays an ob-gyn who has recently moved to Wisteria Lane with his wife and her daughter, the wife returning to her old hometown. They have a secret and we don’t know why the daughter seems to have no memories of her life there with Julie, who supposedly was her best friend about 10 years previous. This mystery will be the main reason I plan to stick with this season.

polly-bergen.jpgBut there are several other plotlines to keep things interesting and to stretch out the season. Lynette’s mom has moved in with them since Lynette has cancer and is undergoing therapy. This week Mom, played by Polly Bergen, secretly bought pot, through Bree’s son, and baked some brownies to help Lynette get over her nausea and lack of appetite. It worked in spades, though she was acting more like she was on speed than pot, she was eating everything in sight and acting very silly at Susan’s charade party.

Later, Bree, who is wearing a fake belly to explain the baby her daughter, Danielle, is going to give birth to soon, got some news that Danielle had fallen and we were thinking the worst: that baby and/or mom had not survived. At the end, though, Bree had an opportunity to tell Susan about her fake baby and didn’t, so we assume both baby and mom are fine.

carlos-and-gabby.jpgAs for the Carlos and Gabby, they have started an affair right after her marriage to Mayor Victor Lang and Carlos is having trouble breaking up with Eydie because she’s aware of his offshore funds and thinks they need to get married so she won’t be able to testify against him should it come to that. Carlos is making plans to move his funds elsewhere so he can finally break it off with Eydie, but finds he may have to worry more about Gabby’s jealous husband since their chat indicating if Gabby was having an affair the mayor has the funds to take care of the other guy. Victor appears to be totally oblivious to the fact that Carlos is that guy.
