There are some books that need to be made into movies, whether for the big or the small screen. I still hope someday Mel Gibson will make Fahrenheit 451 into the great movie I know it could be, despite the fact that Michael Moore stole the title (pretty much) for his 9/11 film. I know there is a 60’s movie based on the Ray Bradbury novel, and it was fine for its’ time, but the special effects alone could go a long way toward making this film a great commentary on how far the government will go to suppress free speech.
Similarly, there is a Stephen King/Peter Straub collaboration entitled The Talisman that may never make it to production because the budget keeps pushing the limits. The Talisman is a fantastic book that allows us to follow the magical journey of Jack Sawyer on a quest to save his mother’s life. Spielberg and Stephen King have put this on the back burner for now. I sincerely hope they will find a way to make it work.
