Brenda is so eager to return to work that she goes straight to the crime scene once the doctor gives her the go-ahead after surgery. She has a rescue worker lower her to the car that has gone off a cliff – the way the camera turns it begins to make even me feel a little queasy. When she is on her feet, she begins to investigate the area until one of her squad tells her she is standing in poison oak.
Back at the office, still feeling achy from surgery and now adding the symptoms of poison oak, Brenda alternates between sitting, scratching her legs, and requiring help to stand and slowly walk around. She calls Fritz to have the FBI help her with this case and he obliges, which turns into a fiasco as Homeland Security tries to take the case from Brenda and her squad. I was glad to see Fritz didn’t allow Brenda to turn him into her puppet this time.
When we found out that Pope knew the victim, I immediately wondered if he was having an affair with her and, lo and behold, I was right! He told Brenda that he hadn’t started seeing Maggie until his wife filed for divorce, but Brenda appeared to be quite upset. I hope this isn’t jealousy on her part, but she was deeply disappointed with Pope. He told her that, while Maggie’s personal life was a mess, she was a total professional on the job, stubborn when she was right which she almost always was. Does that sound like someone else we know?
It was fun to watch Brenda and her squad evade the FBI, making them take the boxes of files but not the cart they were on because that belonged to the LAPD. And just as the show ended and Pope was heading for his car in the garage, he and Gabriel came across the missing car of the victim, in Pope’s parking spot!
