Doctor Who – 42 – Review

The Doctor gives Martha’s cell phone an upgrade so it will have a universal signal where, and whenever she goes. Then they hear a distress signal and away they go….

The TARDIS lands inside a spaceship that appears to be in the midst of being sucked into a collapsing sun. Boy is it hot!

I love how they work in the running joke “Who are you?”, “I’m the Doctor.”

In order to kickstart the engines, all the sealed doors have to be opened and that only works if you can answer all the questions and one of the questions is “Who had the most #1 hits before the age of downloading?” Martha was smart enough to call her mom to look it up on the internet. There was some blonde in the background trying to trace the call – I wonder if they can trace through time and space. I immediately wondered if she is with Torchwood.

Anyway, much mayhem ensues on the spaceship, they eventually find out that the captain of the ship had mined the sun, not knowing it was alive, and the sun was out to kill everyone, it took over the Doctor’s body and almost his mind. Of course, he was able to work everything out and saved some of the crew.

When Martha and the Doctor took off again, Martha called her mum again and, when they hung up, her mum gave the cell phone to the blonde who was now accompanied by a couple of guys and she told Martha’s mum, “Mr. Saxon will be grateful.”

With Torchwood starting on September 8, this could be an introduction to that organization or maybe they are the arch rivals of Torchwood. What fun it will be finding out!
