My TV Musings

I’m looking forward to this rendition of Flash Gordon even though I’ve never read or seen any of the previous imaginings. Looking over the scifi.com website it reminds me of the BBC America Robin Hood series I’ve enjoyed this summer.

I didn’t realize that it takes place on another planet, though somehow Earth must be involved because Flash’s love interest, Dale Arden, is a reporter on Earth keeping Flash a secret from her fiance. Gina Holden is Dale and you may remember her, as I did, as the assistant to PI Vicki Nelson on Blood Ties. She looks quite a bit different here, much more buttoned down. I doubt we’ll see her sporting the goth look on this show.

Some of the other main characters are from another planet. Ming is the archnemisis of Flash, but I think his daughter may not be. It’ll be interesting to see the dynamics between all these characters.

Flash Gordon premieres on Friday, August 10, at 8pm CST.
