State of Mind - Between Here and There - Review

Anne’s Mom (played by Cristina Rose, the evil Petrelli mom on Heroes) is planning a visit and doesn’t know that Anne and Phil have separated. Anne gets nervous about breaking the news so she invites Phil over to help. He’s still trying to work his way back into Anne’s life, but Anne isn’t interested. Once Mom gets past the hurt of not having been told sooner (apparently it’s been 3 weeks since the separation) mother and daughter bond over the dishes and realize they are more alike than either of them knew. They both agree that you have to go after you want and that “you can’t get pizza in a Chinese restaurant”.
I’ve decided to “Sookie”* Drs. Kalid and Banks, the feuding doctors with a past. She’s so full of herself and well, so is he. He may have taken a step toward getting off his pedestal with this episode but we’ll see.
The other story revolved around a family having trouble dealing with a transgendering teenager, a girl who wants to be a boy, and the upset it causes she refuses to wear a ghastly pink bridesmaid dress to the sister’s wedding. The mom seems to take it worse than anyone else. Anne and her Mom take the girl shopping for a very nice tuxedo, but it doesn’t go over well at home. Finally, the dad gets it and brings the tuxedo to her at the last moment.

*To “Sookie” something is to fast forward through that portion of a show - the term was coined by former TvGuide editor Dan Manu on the tvguide.com podcast. He didn’t like Sookie on Gilmore Girls but was still interested in watching the rest of the show.
