The Closer – Saving Face

Brenda the Closer

Some observations:

  • I found myself smiling when Flynn was giving his eulogy and Provenza was laughing at the memorial service. Reminded me of the funeral of Chuckles the Clown on the old Mary Tyler Moore show.
  • And wasn’t it priceless when it was discovered that their friend was almost buried with a nude female body and, after she tumbled out of the coffin, Provenza said ” I guess you CAN take it with you!”
  • Later, another great moment: when Brenda and Sgt. Gabriel shared a look when the funeral director told them that he knew the body couldn’t have been in the coffin with the ex-cop because he always checked the coffins as they left the funeral home and was called “The Closer”.
  • After the plastic surgeon told Brenda her only real issue is that her lipstick is slathered on too thickly, Daniels felt comfortable adding sweaters to the list of changes Brenda might want to make, I was hoping to see Brenda and Daniels shopping together. Maybe that will be addressed in a future episode. I, for one, am glad Brenda finally found a better shade of lipstick.
  • I noticed that the attitude Sgt. Gabriel took with Brenda during the previous episode was totally gone this episode. I wonder if that will come into play again later.
  • I’m looking forward to seeing Barry Corbin as Brenda’s father, especially if her mom, Frances Sternhagen, accompanies him.
