The Asgard are one of the most intelligent species of all time. They gave up their natural physical progression that would have allowed them to ascend to a higher plain of existence because, until the Asgard met and mentored Earthlings, they had found no species worthy to which they could hand down their knowledge.
It was heartbreaking when Sam hugged Thor as he explained that his species was doomed because of the untreatable disease of which they were all dying. And there was little time for the knowledge to be passed on before the Asgard must go, sacrificing themselves instead of dying a painful death.
Fortunately part of the database included holograms of whatever Asgard anyone wanted to use as a guide through the data, so Sam found Thor’s image quite helpful, sometimes to the state of annoyance!
I didn’t expect that the Stargate team would be held in the time-dilation field more than the 3 months Sam originally mentioned so the fact that they were together for 50 years without Sam being able to find a solution to the problem was quite interesting!
Daniel actually scared me, the way he yelled at Vala before finally realizing that he wanted to be with her all along but was afraid after what had happened to his wife long ago, actually in the movie BEFORE Stargate SG1 started!
And who knew that Mitchell had such rage in him when kept in a confined space for so long? Seeing him sitting inside the fighter ship reminded me of Farscape…
As he said “this is the Love Boat without the buffet and the band.”
Several tidbits:- did anyone else know that General Landry could captain a starship?
- I’ve always enjoyed the whole time-dilation and out of phase aspect of technology
- it was cool that Sam learned how to play the cello
- it was neat that Gen. Landry was playing John Fogerty’s Have You Ever Seen the Rain (or was that just supposed to be background music following them through the time span?)
- perhaps Daniel and Vala would be good for each other because he’s willing to give her a shoulder to cry on when she reaches the depths of despair
After all was said and done, they all ended up spending 50 years together just to be forced to forget it. I have to admit I shed a tear at the end when they walked, yet one more time, through the gate!
I will miss this series, I believe I may have seen every episode, but I look forward to the 2 films that will come out on dvd over the next 2 years (see details here).
SPOILERS follow the picture below

It looks like Colonel Samantha Carter will be moving to Stargate Atlantis, perhaps taking over for Elizabeth Weir. How great is that? She and McKay can work side by side and maybe have a little romance thrown in?

My husband is a cellist and it drove him up a wall that when Sam played the cello the fingers had nothing to do with the real music being heard. I’m a flutist, so I have the same feelings about the flute, or about the piano. I find that I really like having a double who can really play to demonstrate the music.
This is a very detailed and informative review. With Sam moving to Atlantis, I am curious what will happen to Dr. Weir. She gets hurt in the season finale of Atlantis. And we all know her and Rodney do not play well together, maybe they need to burn off a little sexual tension!
While SG1 has been one of my favorite shows, I think they let us down with regards to the series finale. They touted the big bang in the commercials, but there wasn’t any finality to it. I’m a big fan of the whole space/time/paradox idea, but this episode was more like a “time joke”. For a regular episode, this would have been great. But fans have come to expect some closure or at least some dramatic changes for ending episode.
Alice, you say your husband is a cellist, does he know what song carter was “playing?” it’s driving me insane, i really liked that sad song, and want to learn it, but i DON’T KNOW WHAT IT’S CALLED!! I know i’m not the only one that this has happened to, but i really don’t want to wait until someone else looks it up (i have no idea where to check for this info). Thanks if you reply
if you could please respond to my e-mail, i’d be really happy, cuz i know i’ll never remember this url, even though it’s quite informative. thanks again.

Howdy Guru, what made you want to write on Stargate SG-1 Series Finale? I was wondering, because I have been thinking about this since last Sunday.
