The Closer Finale Review - Watch the Premiere 6/18
Published Date: June 17th, 2007Category: Finale, The Closer
This weekend I finally got around to watching The Closer’s 2-part finale from last December. It had a different vibe from the regular series and I wasn’t sure I liked it at first. The plot was more detailed than usual and I had to really pay attention, even going so far as watching the first half twice! I guess Kyra and hubby Kevin did a good job with it, though, since I eventually understood most of what was going on.
Brenda and her team were separated due to Brenda, Provenza, and Sanchez being on administration leave during an IA investigation due to the shooting that had taken place in the previous episode.
The finale picked up 4 months later, the same amount of real-time that had passed for viewers who watched the finale in December. So it was totally understandable that Brenda was antsy to get back to work, having tried her hand at several projects, one of which apparently had to do with plants. They were all over her kitchen table!
Fritz, as always, was gentle with her, perhaps the only way he can get her to calm down. I don’t know if she really appreciates him enough and, if Pope ever makes a move on her, I don’t know that she’ll turn him down. She still plays the southern belle a little too much for my taste, but I love her work in the interrogation room and when she’s working with her team. And it was wonderful to hear Flynn appreciates her saying “please”, unlike Taylor.
Flynn and Provenza really came through for her, working during off hours, in secret, so Taylor wouldn’t get wind of it. That guy is a real jerk, kind of reminds me of Gaffney from Homicide: Life on the Street. I don’t know how he keeps his job if all he does is send cases off to different departments and consider them closed!
I loved how Brenda and Fritz pushed Taylor out of Brenda’s office and the fact that he had to take it was priceless!
Anyway, we have the new season starting Monday, 6/18, so it’s good to know that the team has been reassembled, with Tao going on and on as usual, and Daniels back, but no longer dating Gabriel apparently. It sounded like Provenza was no longer worried about IA trying to push him to retirement, but somebody from the team may retire, according to what I’ve read about the opening episode.
So here’s to Brenda and her team, may they stay together at least for another full season, if not several!
