Stargate SG-1 has had a good, long 10-year run and the SciFi Channel will be airing its final episode on June 22.
Family Ties, the most recent episode, took advantage of Father’s Day being right around the corner and told us the stories of two fathers, one a fugitive who never could get it right with his daughter, the other in charge of Stargate who, try as he might, can’t stop his job from getting in the way of making amends with his daughter and his ex-wife. But, thanks to a little dumb luck and his desire to see it happen, Landry was able to arrive at the restaurant before it was too late.
I found it touching when Vala, the daughter of the fugitive, kept not only the latest trinket her wayward father had given her, but had kept all the trinkets and letters he had ever given her, even though she wasn’t able to admit it to others and kept them hidden under her bed.
It looks like they make keep up the family concept next week when Vala confronts her daughter, Adria (portrayed by Morena Baccarin of Firefly and Serenity). Adria, as you will recall was conceived about a year or so ago and is now a full grown woman with superpowers. But such is life on Stargate SG1!
