My TV Musings

Jericho is apparently the most recent casualty of the axe and fans won’t take it! They are setting up a Save the Show campaign to change the minds of the powers-that-be by showing them just how much Jericho is loved. This show, about how people in small towns would react to being left in a world where nuclear bombs have devastated all the major population areas of the country, has spurned fans on to sending letters and other items to the CBS New York offices, some of which includes the delivery of 50,000 pounds of peanuts! In the season finale, a character replies “Nuts!” to a demand that the beleaguered town of Jericho surrender.

It got me thinking about what other shows have evoked similar passion among fans when threatened.

I know that Roswell fans sent bottles of Tabasco sauce in hopes of saving their show. Apparently the aliens couldn’t get enough of the hot stuff!

And Everwood fans were equally clever: in response to the use of a ferris wheel in the series, money was raised to set up a ferris wheel in a school parking lot located within sight of The CW offices and some of the cast of Everwood attended the event!

But my favorite example of a campaign is the one for critically acclaimed Arrested Development, wherein the writers had the Bluth Family begging for donations so they could continue in the manner to which they were accustomed. Ron Howard was priceless with his voiceovers on that show.

p.s. oh, by the way, late this afternoon, it was officially announced that Jericho will be coming back with at least 7 episodes in 2008 - congrats to those who mailed the nuts!
