It was interesting how we started off with what we thought was a flashback but turned out to be a flashforward. Jack has become suicidal because of whatever turn of events occur from here forward. One theory is that there’s a curse on the survivors and, one by one, they are dying off, perhaps even under the guise of suicide. That might help explain why Jack appears to be mourning someone who no one wanted to go see at the viewing: I mean, if yet another of the survivors has died Jack may see the inevitability of his own and Kate’s deaths. And maybe there’s no one left except them at this point. No wonder his desperation to get back to the island!
When Jack goes to the hospital to see the woman and boy he saved, he appears to be delusional. Is it possible that he is no longer a doctor with hospital privileges even and that the new doctor is just humoring Jack? And why would it be inappropriate for his ex to take him home unless she was afraid of what he might do? And, of course, the biggest indicator: when Jack told the doctor to go get his father to see if he’s not drunker than Jack, when we know that Jack’s father died in Australia before the plane crash!
Jacob was mentioned again, Ben said Jacob told him to lie to his people about the Looking Glass being under water, for security purposes – which begs the question: Is Ben delusional? Paranoid beyond belief? Or is he right about Naomi and her people being the Bad Guys and somehow the Others ARE the Good Guys? He’s at least right about Naomi not having told the entire truth since Penny hasn’t a clue who she is and hasn’t sent a boat.
Can’t talk about Lost without mentioning Locke. I think we all expected Locke not to be dead, but did anyone think Walt would appear to him graveside? Even though it wasn’t very obvious, you could tell that Malcolm David Kelley has grown a little more than he should have for the amount of time they’ve been on the island. Locke’s legs were back the way they were before the plane crash until he saw Walt and they must have healed rather quickly because he got all the way to the radio tower not too much after Jack and his people arrived. Locke was humiliated yet again in front of everyone, I think he might as well give up on threatening people’s lives unless he has Sawyer around to do his dirty work for him!
Final Random Thoughts:
- It was touching when Jin spoke to Sun in English for the first time
- When will Richard take charge of the Others? He’s supposed to be taking the Others to the Temple, I wonder if we’ll find out much about that
- It was funny when Rose told Jack that if he said we will live together or die alone she would punch him
- Could Kate be pregnant? Maybe that’s the ‘he’ she refers to at the end when she says he’ll be wondering where she is
- Will Mikhail rear his ugly head again? The guy just will not die! I loved the cool special effects they used on his right eye when the patch was off
- It was nice to see Juliet and Sawyer bantering about alien runways and to learn that she and Jack haven’t been together yet, or at least that she won’t admit it – could Juliet and Sawyer get together at some point?
- And what was that deal with Jack quietly telling Kate he loved her? She didn’t seem too excited about it and the flash forward shows they aren’t together – maybe there will be a lot of ups and downs for them
- How about that Hurley? Saving the day in the VW van – how cool! I love Hurley
- It was priceless when Naomi, of all people, indicated to Jack that perhaps they shouldn’t trust Juliet – and as for her people, both she and Mikowski seem nice, but he didn’t appear to understand the purpose of their trip since he wasn’t asking if Jack was one of the survivors they were searching for
- What a great bonding experience it was for mother and daughter to tie up Ben together! Did you catch that Alex was born, but not conceived, on the island?
- Loved it when Tom surrendered but Sawyer killed him anyway because, as he told Hurley, “I didn’t believe him”
- Could Charlie fit through the porthole and save himself by swimming back to where Desmond is? Obviously you can get there from where he is because Mikhail got there. Perhaps it’s not over for Charlie yet!
Well we’ve a long time to ponder all these questions as Lost doesn’t return until early 2008!

A couple of very interesting finale episodes indeed.
I think we were all thrown off by the first (probably) Flash Forward.
Guess I’ll throw in my 2 cents….
*) Jack is probably driven to suicidal drinking because he realizes that getting off the island was the worst thing he could have done… not so much for himself, but for everyone else on the island, who now (as Ben cautioned) would all die… and they ARE all dying off.
*) It’s probably inappropriate for Jack’s Ex to take him home because she is either re-married, or Jack is married?
*) I noticed a LOT of violence in these episodes. It struck me particularly hard that the plane crash survivors have been killing a LOT of people whereas the Others have not really been killing anyone. Even Ben shooting Locke. It seemed very odd to me at the time that Ben (knowing the islands healing powers, and having just seen Mikhail come back “from the dead”) would have left Locke without making double sure he was REALLY REALLY dead first. I have wondered if Ben’s intention was perhaps just to slow Locke down? Or, maybe Ben did intend to kill him, but at this point we’re not sure Ben is totally sane, and could be an answer to the shooting. In any case, when it comes to one “side” killing the other. It just seems like the survivors are killing the Others, while the Others just (usually) kill their own.
*) Kate is almost certainly pregnant. I think that has been part of an upcoming plot development for a couple months now.
Well, enough for now. I refuse to think about this any longer… since I’m sure to have Lost totally out of my head by the time it airs again! SHEESH !
Great theory
what happend to walt and his father, where did those coordinates lead to, what was that black smoke, what was the dharma ini. Where the hell did that polar bear came from, why is it that one time the hatch was only 10 min. walking and the other time almost 2 hours. Why the hell is Richard not aged in 30 years.
What the hell is that wispering in the woods.
Where did that hole in the ground lead to where locke ended up after being dragged through the woods.
