Interesting the things city government will get involved in: I had heard on the local (Austin, Texas) news that Friday Night Lights was in town again filming more episodes of their critically-acclaimed series. Then I read that the Peabody-award winning show had not yet been picked up for a second season. The formal announcement will be made during upfronts next month. Well this didn’t seem to add up to me so I investigated and found out that NBC has commissioned 6 additional scripts for the show and that the Austin City Council is offering NBC Universal $40K to pick up the show for the new season. It seems that having FNL here to film the series helps with the local economy. It just goes to show: politics DOES make for very strange bedfellows!
